What's the difference between Am7 and C6? |
|
C6, as a chord symbol, is mostly used in pop/rock music. Jazz, you may see it, but most likely in a pop tune converted to jazz. Classical does not use chord symbols, and theoretical analysis would be done in "Figured Bass." Functionally, if you were to play a C6; it would sound like an Am7. There's no way to get around that: they sound the same. The difference is in where they happen in a chord chart, or the chords before and after. The next things to ask about would be "Deceptive Cadences" and "Chord Substitution." |
