I've heard this term 'Power Chord'. What is it. Is it a superior chord that rules over others, is it a chord you have to supply power to before you play it like phantom power to a condenser mike or is it 'stronger' than all the other chords like my mate Jim who wins all the events on sports day? |

Power chord is most common "chord" used in rock, its not even actual chord since it only has 2 notes octaves (root, fifth), its called power because it sounds powerful (often used with distortion because distortion sounds clearer with fewer notes.) 2 most common ways to play power chord would be for example in C : x355xx (fifth octave) or 3355xx (with both root and fifth octaves.) Its also both minor or major since it doesnt define harmony (except for fifth but thats in both minor and major). |
I thought a power chord was what you plugged into an outlet.
