Why does a bass guitar only have 4 strings? Does it make it cheaper so poorer people can afford a guitar?

No they're for less talented people, but being poor is usually a by-product.

bass usually doesn't require complex enough chords for more strings and note options, i dont think its for poor people, although even if they are cheaper its cause there is less demand, and there are five and six string basses
