How often should you change your strings and how can you look after them? |
|
It depends on how often you play, whether you wash your hands before you play, how much your hands sweat while playing, and so forth. After you've been playing guitar for awhile you'll figure out when strings are going dead or are dead already. There's too many variables in the different types of strings to be able to tell you when they are dead, but a good rule of thumb is to change whenever the strings start to get really dull and black looking (especially on the first three strings) and start to get a rough feel to them that doesn't go away too much from a simple wipe-down. Also, you might want to check out string cleaner, like some made by Dunlop here, because it'll make your strings last longer if you use it on your strings after every playing session. However, it will take the initial brightness out of strings faster... Either way, there's a trade-off involved. Hope this was helpful :) |

Do like me and the rest of the rock stars and change them as often as you change your underpants! |
