I first learned to play in high school on a nylon string classical guitar. Naturally, I learned to play finger style, with no pick. When I eventually switched to steel string acoustic and electric guitar, I didn't bother using a pick since I was so comfortable finger picking. I also hold an electric guitar as if it were a classical guitar. I've tried to use a pick but it just doesn't feel right. I just can't feel the strings the way I can with my fingers. What is the best way to learn to use a pick after years of finger picking? Or should I just stick with my fingers?

the pick's thickness affects directly the way you feel your picking... you can use light, medium or hard pick, and each one feels different... you may also start with letting your fingernails to grow large, and start playing the strings with the nails... this way you'll be losing your need to touch the strings with your fingers... this worked for me, i was balky to use a pick, haha!! i hope you can find this info useful |

Why would you want to use a pick? You already have way more control and ability using your fingers then most guitar players. I think you are just going backwards. |
