what are the types of chords? |
|
Well there are many we'll use A chords as an example SCALE CHORDS______ Major Chords: A Minor Chords: Am Diminished Chords: Adim Augmented Chords: Aaug CHORD ADD-ONS________________________ Suspended 4th Chords: Asus4 Suspended 2nd Chords: Asus2 Added Chords: Aadd9 (Aadd11 or Aadd4) (Aadd13 or Add6) DOMINANT CHORDS____ Dominant 7th Chords: A7 Dominant 6th Chords: A6 Dominant 9th Chords: A9 Dominant 11th Chords: A11 Dominant 13th Chords: A13 MODIFIED SCALE CHORDS___ Sharpend 5th Chords: A5# Flatted 5th Chords: A5b POWER CHORDS______ Rooted Fifths Chords: A5 MODIFIED BASS CHORDS "SLASH CHORDS" Changed Bass Chords: A/B And with these you can mix chords to make endless combinations -For example = Am7sus4 (A minor, dominant 7th, suspended 4th) And times all these by the 12 semi-tones and you'll have all the chords To completey understand you need to know your scales and theory.
A major scale = A - B - C# - D - E - F# - G# - A(octave) | | | To make a major chord we take the 1st 3rd and 5th notes in a scale and play them together so an A chord has an A, C#, And an E.
A Minor Scale = A - B - C - D - E - F - G - A(Octave) | | | Same Rules as a Maj chord apply to a Minor Chord So an Am Chord put an A, C, And an E. Now to add other chord forms is easy just look at the names lol So for an Aadd9 you make an A Chord and add the 9th note in the scale to the Chord. So and Aadd9 has A, C#, E, and a B in it. For "sus" chords it's a little confusing but basically you "substitute" but the theory term is "suspend" so for an Asus4 take an A maj chord(A, C#, E) and take out either the C#. If you're wondering "Why C#?" It's because for "sus" chords you remove the third(note in the scale) from the chords. Once the note is removed insert the 4th(note in the scale). So now you have the notes A, D, and E. |
Can you be more specific in what you mean by 'the types of chords'.
