Where is and how do I find middle 'C' on the guitar fretboard? |
|
Middle 'C' on the guitar is the B string first fret. Guitar music is written on the treble clef but is transposed up 1 octave. You will sometimes see a little '8' attached to the bottom of the treble clef to tell you this. Middle 'C' vibrates at 261.63Hz if you want to check it out. |

Either the 3rd fret of the A string or the 8th fret of the low E string. The best way to find middle C on a guitar would be to get a piano, find middle C there (sometimes it's labeled), and then play though all the C notes on your guitar until you find a note that matches. 1
The 1st fret of the B string is a C note, however it is not middle C.

No matter what anyone tells you, middle C on the guitar is the first fret of the second string (the B string). Written music for the guitar is transposed up one octave so when your playing music written specifically for the guitar, then you need to play an octave lower, which is the C on the third fret of the fifth string. (the A string) But middle C is always middle C!
