Is there an easy way to figure out where to put the capo in order to make chord transitions easier? For instance, if the chords I have are D, F#, Bm, then G, where could I put the capo to eliminate all the barre chords?

I don't believe there is any way to eliminate all bar chords in this progression. A capotasto is essentially not a way to eliminate bar chords. It's in my understanding a tool used to adapt the tuning of your guitar to your voice.

Say you would put the capo on the second fret and play the same progression, it would become:

E, G#, C#m, A

Bar chords are necessary for playing guitar, play the progression and practice you strength.

If you must play this.

Play the Bm and the F# like this

Bm F#
e: 2 e: 2
B: 3 B: 2
G: 4 G: 3
D: x D: 4
A: x A: x
E: x E: x
