Hi Angela. At the moment Taylor Swift songs are the most requested to be learnt by my students and I find her songs very refreshing albeit a bit of 'all the sameish'. When you say 'strumming pattern' can you expand on how you learn your patterns and what would make sense 'written down' i.e. 'upward strums 4 to the bar' or up and down 8 to the bar'? I will then try and tell you what Taylor is doing. I watched her on T.V. last week and noticed no less than 6 guitarists in her band! In 'You Belong To Me' Taylor doesn't come in with her guitar until after 39 seconds and then uses 1 strum per bar until the song kicks off proper at 59 seconds with the full band.
