I bought a JCM-modded Boss DS-1 from Craigslist. It was modded to have more mids and high gain. I also have a new EH Metal Muff Micro in my pedal chain (which is also a high-gain pedal). Due to the high-gain, I get a lot of buzz whenever I engage either of them.

What should I do to reduce the unwanted noise? They sound okay at low volume/distortion settings, but that defeats the purpose.

Well one thing you could try is getting a noise cancelling pedal such as the "Noise Decimator", by ISP.

Yeah, a "Noise gate" is what these pedals are usually referred to as. I'm actually a little surprised your Boss-Ds-1 doesn't have a built in noise suppressor or noise gate.

Investing in one of these will not alter your tone, but make it will clear it up quite a bit, reduce noise and feedback over ringing chords and such.
