Hi, what does it mean if a tone shown in the Chord Calculator is in parenthesis? For example, when looking at a 7th chord, the 5th is in parenthesis.

The parentheses means that the tone is optional. Seventh chords can be built with just the 1st, 3rd, and 7th tones of a key and you have the option to add the 5th tones as well.
