I am a guitarist and bass player. I have written quite a few songs and have discovered some unusual chords. When I plug the fingerings into the chord namer it will name the chord but when I enter that chord name into the chord search application the chord diagrams are not even close to the chord I am fingering. An example is a chord I use which is a F# major chord with the B & E string left open. A very intriguing sound. Alex Lifeson of Rush uses this voicing to great effect. The chord namer will call it a F#7b11sus4, but when I plug that name into the chord search app. nothing comes up that resembles what I'm playing. Any tips? -Joe Lopez III Oceanside, CA |

The chord search and chord namer tools are complimentary to each other but that doesn't mean that you'll always get the same fingering that chord namer returned as the first result when you enter the name into the chord search. Chord search will give you the 4 best fingerings for a given chord name (click on any of the 4 chord diagrams to see even more fingering results from the chord calculator). You could enter a wildly unconventional fingering into the chord namer and it will name it correctly, but don't expect the chord search to return an uncomfortable fingering as a result when better ones exist. |
