Is there a stylistic variant to play the pinch harmonic without a pick? I use my thumb to pick and therefore it's somewhat more strenuous to do a pinch harmonic. I've rummaged through a few tutorial videos with some decent instructions. But they all utilize a pick. I have gotten a certain level of success, but the sound is tinny and somewhat muted. It's definitely not as loud as it should be. So if there's any advice you all have, let it be known. I know I sound like an idiot, but I'm actually a pretty decent guitarist. This is just one area that has continually been trouble for me. Thanks in advance for any answers. |

I think the pick is part of the formula for getting intense pinch harmonics that you hear most people play. If you are doing it without a pick even though maybe not as pronounced, you are doing pretty good to start with. There may be other methods, but I would say that most players if not 99.2% rely on a pick, because it seems like pinch harmonics are mostly a rock music tool, and most rock players mostly use picks. -Obviously Jeff Beck is the exception to the rule- |

if doing the basic bottom e string pinch on the third fret just hit the fret like a harmonic and then bend away, works everytime. |
