I was looking at the e locrian scale and it looks like its the same as the f major scale? and the b locrian is the same as a c major? whats the point of locrian scales if they're just basically flat versions of another scale? why the confusing name!

You are right. It is much easier than it looks. Some people insist "the Modes consist of the root scale starting on and emphasizing each degree of the scale". That is just as confusing as when they start re-naming notes after the first seven. Although theory is real important, almost every traditional teaching gets too technical. Broken down, there is a simpler explaination for all of it.

...

E IONIAN = E Major Scale START ON 12th fret

E DORIAN = D Major Scale START ON 10th fret

E PHRYGIAN = C Major Scale START ON 8TH fret

E LYDIAN = B Major Scale START ON 7TH fret

E MIXOLYDIAN = A Major Scale START ON 5TH fret

E AEOLIAN = G Major Scale START ON 3RD fret

E LOCRIAN = F Major Scale START ON 1ST fret

WORKS FOR ALL KEYS

...

MEMORIZE THE INTERVALS DECENDING: w 1/2 w w w

MODES IN THE KEY OF E FROM FRET 12 DOWN TO THE 1ST FRET:

E IONIAN 12th fret (E maj scale)

WHOLE STEP down to

D DORIAN 10th fret (D maj scale)

WHOLE STEP down to

C PHRYGIAN 8TH fret (C maj scale)

HALF STEP down to

B LYDIAN 7TH fret (B maj scale)

WHOLE STEP down to

A MIXOLYDIAN 5TH fret (A maj scale)

WHOLE STEP down to

G AEOLIAN 3RD fret (G maj scale)

WHOLE STEP down to

F LOCRIAN 1ST fret (F maj scale)

...

Also, each major scale has a relative minor (blues scale):

E IONIAN = play E Major Scale START ON 12th fret or..C# Blues Scale

E DORIAN = play D Major Scale START ON 10th fret or..B Blues Scale

E PHRYGIAN = play C Major Scale START ON 8TH fret or..A Blues Scale

E LYDIAN = play B Major Scale START ON 7TH fret or..G# Blues Scale

E MIXOLYDIAN = play A Major Scale START ON 5TH fret or..F# Blues Scale

E AEOLIAN = play G Major Scale START ON 3RD fret or..E Blues Scale

E LOCRIAN = play F Major Scale START ON 1ST fret or..D Blues Scale
